Why real forged Damascus beats laser-etched
Real forged Damascus is layers of steel folded and welded around a high-carbon cutting core. The wave pattern is inside the steel. Sand off the surface and dip the blade in mild acid, and the pattern comes right back.
Laser-etched Damascus is a pattern printed on the outside of a single piece of stainless steel. Same look in photos. Very different knife in your hand. The etched pattern wears off within months of real cooking.
Ours is the real one. 33 forged layers per side wrapped around a 10Cr15CoMoV high-carbon cutting core, hardened to HRC 60±2 — the sweet spot professional chefs look for.
What steel is the Tidal Black made from?
The cutting core is 10Cr15CoMoV steel — a high-carbon alloy in the same chemistry class as premium Japanese knife steels. Roughly 1% carbon, 15% chromium, plus cobalt, molybdenum, and vanadium.
Why cobalt matters: Cobalt lets the blade be heat-treated to HRC 60±2 without becoming brittle. Cheaper Damascus sets using plain 9Cr18MoV or generic "high-carbon stainless" typically max out at HRC 56-58.

Customer Reviews
OMGoodnes!!! The sharpest most beautiful knives I have ever had! These shall last a lifetime! Definitely worth the cost!
Awesome knife set. I got it as a gift for my son and he loves it.
So far they're staying very sharp and holding up well after a few months of daily use. We put them on a magnetic board in the kitchen and they're a functional decoration, and for that, they are fantastic.
