Tidal Blue 8" Damascus Bread Knife — Serrated, Real Forged
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Real forged Damascus. Not laser-etched. The Tidal Blue 8" Bread Knife (Serrated) is built around a 10Cr15CoMoV cutting-core steel wrapped in 67 total layers of true forged Damascus cladding. Hardness rating: HRC 60–62. Ergonomic blue-burl resin handle, riveted through. Hand-wash only. Backed by our 2-Year Epicurean Promise.
What this knife is for
The 8-inch bread knife is a serrated blade — a completely different animal from the smooth-edged knives in your set. Serrations grip and saw through hard crusts and soft interiors without crushing anything.
- Crusty sourdough, ciabatta, baguettes. The kind of loaves where a chef's knife would just tear the crust and squash the crumb.
- Bagels. Serrated cuts through the tough exterior without splitting the bagel in half.
- Ripe tomatoes. Counter-intuitive but true — a serrated blade cuts through tomato skin without squashing the interior. Chefs prefer this over a paring knife for delicate tomato slicing.
- Layered cakes and delicate pastries. Slicing through frosting-topped cakes cleanly.
- Watermelon. Long strokes through a melon are easier with a serrated blade than a straight one.
Serration note: A serrated blade CANNOT be sharpened on a whetstone (you'd flatten the teeth). With hand-wash care, this blade stays effective for 5-10 years of regular use before needing specialty serrated sharpening.
Blade steel and edge
The cutting core is 10Cr15CoMoV steel, hardened to HRC 60–62. The edge angle is 15° per side.

How to care for Damascus knives
- Hand-wash only, dry immediately. Never dishwasher. Dishwasher detergent attacks the softer outer Damascus cladding and the tumbling cycle nicks the edge.
- Store on a magnetic bar, in a wooden knife block, or in a blade sheath. Loose in a drawer = dinged edge.
- Cut on wood or soft plastic. Never glass, ceramic, or stone. Never cut bones or frozen food — those chip a Damascus edge fast.
- Hone before each use with a ceramic rod. Realigns the edge micro-serrations. Takes 10 seconds.
- Sharpen with a whetstone once or twice a year. The 10Cr15CoMoV core responds beautifully to a 1000/6000-grit stone.
